Jurgen Klopp has played down suggestions the English weather will have an impact on whether or not the Liverpool boss extends his Anfield contract.

Klopp's agent Marc Kosicke caused something of a stir on Tuesday in an interview with German website Sporx when he joked that the adverse conditions on Merseyside will play a part in the Reds manager's long-term thinking.

"One has to wait and see how everything develops and whether climate change also brings better weather to England or only to Germany," said Kosicke.

The Reds boss has previously bemoaned the weather at times during his Anfield tenure, but swatted away suggestions Kosicke's comments were to be taken seriously.

Klopp stated his representative was merely making light of a question over his contract with the European champions and laughed off talk about the climate problems in England.

He said: "I think he wanted to make a joke! But now I have to be serious because I could make a lot of jokes about the weather, especially when I am sweating like crazy (in Napoli's media room).

"It was German humour and no-one got it. The weather was never a big thing for me to make a decision or choose a city. The weather in Liverpool is not always nice, especially in winter, but in March and September, it is nicer than you would imagine.

"I came in October 2015 and and you could sing a song 'Don't move to Liverpool in October' and until March, for five months, it was not too cool and it was harsh.

"I spoke about the weather a few times, but it was the wind which has had an affect on football, but that is not allowed in England as well, but it is not a reason for me to leave the country.

"I am completely fine with the weather in Liverpool. It's pretty much the opposite of this room right now! So I enjoy it quite often actually.

"There was nothing in that story. [Kosicke's comment] was a proper bomb and people jumped on it. He is my agent and a friend and friends can say what they like and no one got his joke, that's how it is."

Klopp is currently contracted until 2022 with the Champions League holders.
